Bike Fork
A bicycle fork is the part of a bicycle that holds the front wheel on, and attaches to the
bike stem. At the top of the fork are
handlebars, which allow the rider to steer the wheel in any direction he/she chooses.
The bicycle fork is a very important part of the bike for a number of reasons. For one, this
part of the bike is needed to steer the bike where it is supposed to go.
Two, it holds the front wheel on securely while you ride. And three, it provides a sort of
mounting place for front brakes. Front brakes are needed to stop a bike quickly, so you can see that a bicycle fork
is absolutely necessary on several levels.
Some bicycle forks have suspension built into them, while most do not. Bicycle
forks come in a variety of sizes and types. They are usually made from either aluminum, steel, magnesium,
titanium, carbon fiber, or some other material of that sort.
Most bicycle forks curve forward slightly, giving them an offset look and making the bike easier
to steer. A number of different bicycle fork designs have been utilized through the years, though not all of them
have become very popular.
Keeping your bicycle forks serviced regularly is an important part of keeping your bike
maintained. Sometimes, the forks on a bike need to be greased or oiled for maximum efficiency.
They also need adjustment sometimes, depending upon what type of fork you have and whether or
not it has suspension built into it.
It is always a good idea to check your key attachment points before every ride, and to give the
entire fork assembly a good review about once per month, just to make sure nothing is coming loose. Your safety is
at stake!
